TaylorMade Stealth UDI vs. DHY

TaylorMade is set to launch its new Stealth UDI and Stealth DHY. These utility irons will replace the SIM, and they offer some unique characteristics for golfers looking to replace long irons and hybrids. Many golfers think that the UDI is for low handicappers and the DHY is for higher handicappers. Still, it’s better to look at specifications and technology to determine which is best for your game. Let’s take a deeper look at the UDI vs. DHY and which could be good for your game.

TaylorMade Stealth UDI vs. DHY

The TaylorMade Stealth UDI and DHY both feature the forged hollow body construction with the use of SpeedFoam Air and Thru Slot Speed Pocket technology. Players have tremendous advantages when it comes to overall distance and feel.

Shaping

The TaylorMade UDI has more of a tour-inspired shape and will look closer to a traditional iron from the top down. The shaping gives players a workable feel and increases confidence when trying to hit a draw or fade.

The TaylorMade DHY has a lower profile head with a wide sole design. The DHY shaping allows for improved playability and forgiveness.

Ball Flight

With utility irons, ball flight is a very important. There should be a good mix of control and height to ensure maximum distance. The Stealth UDI has a more penetrating ball flight that also allows for increased spin. If you want to control golf balls and get them to stop on the green, this club can help.

The Stealth has a lower center of gravity and a medium ball flight, but getting the club off the ground is easy. Players that struggle with ball flight and control will find the DHY to be a better fit.

Loft

The TaylorMade UDI comes in three different lofts, the 18, 20, and 23 degrees. With this club having a more penetrating ball flight, the extra loft can help to increase stopability on the greens.

The TaylorMade DHY has four different lofts, 17, 19, 22, and 25. For golfers that are struggling with irons and want utilities instead, the DHY will likely be a better fit. The loft here is a bit lower to help with distance, but the lower center of gravity increases overall launch and ball flight.

Some golfers that carry more than one utility have gone with the DHY in the lowest lofts for the extra forgiveness, and the UDI in the higher lofts, combo sets here are certainly a possibility.

Conclusion

With the release of the new Stealth line, we were waiting for the utility irons to make their debut. The new Stealth incorporates all of the great things that the SIM utility irons had, but there is some added forgiveness and a bit more workability than we have seen in the past. The TaylorMade golf clubs have high ball speed and can help those that swing the club a bit slower. The UDI and DHY both bring unique performance to the market, and if you need an update this year, they are certainly worth looking into.
